Dialog

Grammatik

DER NEBENSATZ MIT „obwohl“

The subordinate clause with "obwohl"

  1. „obwohl“ means „although“. It says that something happens even though there is a reason against it.
  2. Like after „weil“, „dass“ and „wenn“ the verb goes to the END: „Ich kaufe es, obwohl es teuer IST.“
  3. Before „obwohl“ there is a comma.
  4. If the „obwohl“ part comes first, the main part starts with the verb: „Obwohl es teuer ist, KAUFE ich es.“
  5. „obwohl“ and „aber“ say almost the same thing, but the word order is different: „Es ist teuer, ABER ich kaufe es.“ — normal order. „Ich kaufe es, OBWOHL es teuer IST.“ — verb at the end.
Ich kaufe es, obwohl es teuer ist.
Obwohl es teuer ist, kaufe ich es.
Es ist teuer, aber ich kaufe es.

Tipp: „weil“ gives the reason FOR. „obwohl“ gives the reason AGAINST — and you do it anyway.

Beispiele

  • Obwohl ich lange gesucht habe, habe ich nichts gefunden.
